Little Roots Pediatric Dentistry, home

Inside every tooth is the pulp, the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels. When a cavity or injury reaches this inner portion of the tooth, pulpal treatment may be needed to remove affected tissue, relieve discomfort, and help preserve the tooth.

Depending on the tooth and how much of the pulp is affected, treatment may involve removing only the affected portion of the pulp or treating the entire pulp space. A crown is often placed afterward to protect and strengthen the tooth.

At Little Roots, we’ll carefully evaluate the tooth and explain whether pulpal treatment is appropriate. Our goal is to preserve your child’s natural tooth when it is healthy and beneficial to do so, while keeping your child comfortable throughout their care.

This page describes clinical care in general terms and is written for parents. It is not advice about your individual child.
